1. About this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Summa: Money Tracker ("Summa") handles information when you use the iPhone app. Summa is designed as a local-first personal finance tracker.
2. Information we collect
Summa does not collect personal information, financial information, or app usage information. The app has no user account system, login, cloud backend, or developer-operated server that receives your app data.
Summa does not include advertising, analytics, telemetry, or cross-app tracking.
3. Information stored on your device
Information you enter in Summa is stored locally in the app's private storage on your device. Depending on how you use the app, this can include:
- expense, income, investment contribution, and transfer transactions;
- transaction amounts, dates, money sources, categories, destinations, and optional notes;
- Cash and Card balances and balance history;
- expense and income categories, including archived categories;
- Home card visibility and ordering preferences; and
- app settings such as the selected display currency.
This information is used on your device to provide the app's features and calculate your financial summaries.
4. Backup and restore
Backup and restore are initiated and controlled by you. When you choose Export Backup, Summa creates a ZIP archive containing CSV files with your transactions, categories, balance snapshots, and Home card preferences. The iOS share sheet lets you choose where to save or send that archive.
Summa does not automatically upload the archive and does not send a copy to the developer. If you save or share a backup through another app or storage provider, that provider handles the exported copy under its own terms and privacy policy.
When you select a backup to restore, Summa reads and validates the archive on your device. A confirmed restore replaces the financial data currently stored in the app.
5. No financial service connections
Summa does not connect to banks, payment cards, brokers, cryptocurrency exchanges, or other external financial services. It does not automatically import transactions, retrieve account balances, or fetch market prices or currency exchange rates.
6. No advertising, analytics, or tracking
Summa does not show advertising and does not use advertising identifiers. It does not include third-party analytics or tracking tools, and it does not track you across apps or websites.
7. Apple and services you choose
Summa uses standard iOS features such as the system file picker and share sheet when you choose to import, save, or share a backup. Your use of Apple services, device backups, and any third-party destination you select is governed by the policies of those providers. Summa does not control those services.
8. Data retention and deletion
Your app data remains on your device until you delete records, use Summa's reset feature, or remove the app. Removing the app may delete its local data. Backup files you exported remain in the locations where you saved or shared them until you delete those copies there.
9. Security
Summa relies on iOS app sandboxing and device security to protect locally stored app data. No method of storage is guaranteed to be completely secure, so keep your device protected and store exported backups only in trusted locations.
10. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if Summa's features or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will identify the latest version. Any future feature that changes how data is handled should be reflected here before release.
